PRE TREATMENT:
- To prepare for your PRP treatment, avoid using hair products such as gel or hairspray for 3 days prior to your appointment.
- Do not use tobacco, alcohol or caffeine at least two days before your procedure. These substances decrease your body’s ability to heal and may affect your results.
DURING TREATMENT:
- PRP therapy for hair loss is a three-step process.
- First, your medical provider will draw a vial of blood and place it in a centrifuge. The centrifuge separates the platelet-rich plasma from other components found in your blood.
- While that’s happening, your provider will apply a local anesthetic to prevent any discomfort. Then, they’ll inject small amounts of the platelet-rich plasma in a pattern across your scalp, evenly distributing the PRP.
POST TREATMENT:
- Immediately after the procedure, small bumps will appear at the injection sites and small amounts of blood and plasma may be seen. The bleeding and swelling will subside within a few hours.
- To ease discomfort after your procedure, an ice compress can be applied to the affected areas of the scalp.
Hair restoration treatment requires little downtime; you can immediately return to most activities. However, you should avoid:
- Touching or washing the scalp for at least 24 hours
- Sun or heat exposure and strenuous activities for 2 days
- Alcohol, caffeine and cigarettes for at least 3 days
- Saunas, pools and hot tubs for 3–4 days
The healing process takes approximately 3–4 weeks. Results appear 3–6 months after your treatment, as the inactive hair follicles need time to react to the growth factors.
